Well lets start off with a lil joke here. Guess what, I saw this in Tropicana Mall yesterday and thought that it was a toilet bowl until I realized that there is a mirror in front! Well I can't imagine what would happen if there is such a toilet bowl with a mirror like that! xp. In fact that is a basin designed for kids.
Its quite surprising that I updated my blog quite early. Maybe its holiday? But my mid-term holidays is always quite a busy one. Lots of "appointments" with family and friends. I've been nearly a week in Melaka AND I didnt get to swim yet! My movements are getting awkward. Noo!!! Am I too addicted to swimming? Lol. But it's a good thing. Many people said that I've slimmed down quite a lot. Ehe... ^^
Yen Hua and Pei Ying and family visited Melaka. Sadly I really can't make it to meet them since I have my cousin's wedding dinner to attend. Really busy. Then, Its farewel dinner for Ong Yi. Dear Ong Yi, I wish for you all the best while you persueing your studies in London. Keep in touch bro!!! We'll miss you badly.

Genting!!! Finally its my 1 day trip to Genting. I'll share some of it with you guys while waiting the photos to be uploaded in Facebook by the others. Though I've been to Genting for lots of time, it's still quite a different experience indeed to go with my fellow UTP-ian friends. And yeah, I've finally completed all the thrills in Genting! Though we ended up queueing up more than playings. I've finally ride the Cockscrew red roller coaster and the Flying Coaster which I've long wanted to ride. However it was not as thrilling as I imagined. *proud* Oh by the way, really thanks a lot to you guys for calling me joining the trip, and getting the ticket for us. Esp Mel who came all the way from Klang to KL just for that ticket. Really appreciate that and sorry for the trouble. BTW, I really enjoyed the trip. =)

Well for those who are interested in computer graphics, and would like to know more about the arts of 3D graphics, below are some pieces of information:

Creation of a 3D Graphics All 3D graphics of an object is created via 3 fundamentals processes: -Modeling -Texturing -Rendering
Modeling 3D object is made up of points, which is connected to form polygons. Groups of interconnected polygons then form the surfaces of the object. Digital 3D object is often regarded as model, and the work of creating it is known as modeling. Very complex modeling requires acquired skills which takes a long time to master. Texturing When a model is done, it is plain and has no texture on its surface. Therefore textures are applied through a technique known as UV mapping. Normally texture is created using other 2D software such as Adobe Photoshop.
Rendering This is the most important process among all the others. Rendering in 3D means the process of aa (anti aliasing) and simulating the applied attribute of an object such as reflectiveness, specularity, transparency and so on into your 3D scene. Normaly a 3D scene or setup consist of 3D models, particles and light. The computer will try to simulate how the lights would be bent, reflected and bounces off surfaces thourgh ray tracing. Hence the object looks photo realistic. The output of rendering would be normally be an image or animation. A single-framed high resolution image would takes up to hours to render! And animations such as Finding Nemo consisted of millions of such frame and the rendering is done by super computers. Notes: anti-aliased means to produce images with smooth edges without pixelated out.

Bad Badtz-Maru! The name of this cute cartoon character which decorates my table lamp. It takes me 1 hours to model it, and another hour to texture and detailed its surfaces. Normally organic objects are harder to be created and even impossible to replicate the real object by 100%!

Can you notice the difference? The surface of the rendered lamp looks realistic, and consists of tiny bumps resembles the surface of a plastic (cant be seen).

My first semester in UTP is coming to an end in this coming few weeks. I had a very clear idea on how my life is in UTP. I'll give a very brief picture on life in UTP. Frankly, I enjoyed every moment here with my fellow friends and my sporting room mate as well. They give me the colour of life in UTP, though sometimes I'll tend to isolate myself to study when test or exam approached. We played soccer every week (sometimes untill 1.a.m.), swimming (thx to Yen Hua coaching me free style), badminton (favourite, and thx to KK teaching me to smash), go to Ipoh kai kai, watch movie, DotA-ing, Counter Strinking (both I solute to Leon's experties, but I am catching up in CS!!!) , Pasar Malam-ing, and go to Tronoh to get some yummilicious food. During weekends, I'll go for yang qin practise for the chinese orchestra. I really have a strong passion in all those musical instruments as they will release my tension efficiently. However things aren't perfect. I can't find a paino here, and there is only 1 grand paino in the subterrainean seminar room. Once I used to sneaked into that place, in DARKNESS late in midnight just to play the piano!!! Plus, the wifi in my room sux! That's why I can't online. When it comes to study, sometimes I really got too stressed by tests and assignments, and I feel that time is really insufficient for me to study...so i really did something terrible. I skip classes and even some of my meals...just to keep me studying. I even had a'lil conflict with my good friend, however it was settled not much later. Measles are highly contagious and the virus spread in the air via the contaminated aerosol droplets produced by sneezing and coughing patients. In some cases that I read in BBC news, the disease remains contagious still within 4 meters from the patient. That's why I am home now. (The picture don't portray my actual situation which is very mild)
It started like this - on the 23 of July, my symptoms begin as a mild fever. I felt very cold in the lecture hall, and a bit of dizziness and sore throat. Sooner, my friends said that my face looked as red as an apple. My eyes looked red as well, like "pontianak". We thought that this was a normal fever, and the Chinese usually used to said "overheated". So I went to see the doctor in UTP after my lecture sessions. Yet, the early symptoms were too insufficient to give a clue that the doctor assumed my condition as a normal throat infection. We didn't think of measles at all, and I had never been concerned about it. Taking it likely as normal sore throat, still I hang out with friends to have our dinner at V4.
On the very next morning, my roommate Han Shen who had taken care of me for the whole night said that my face remained red and my temperature remains high even he kept putting a wet clothes on my forehead. Then I knew something MUST be wrong. When I was changing my shirt, to my surprise, I noticed thousands of red spots in my chest! And a lil of them on both of my arms. Worse came to worst, I had a bad flu and nasal infections. The symptoms were fully manifested. I knew it was measles, so I rush to the clinic again and this time the doctor had confirmed it. Then I recalled my brother's case around 10 days ago before I came to UTP. He got measles too, and probably I picked up the same virus from him. After the incubation period of 10 days, the disease finally shown up in me. I was given an MC for about a week to rest at home. I managed to get Gabriel, my kind senior's help to send me to the bus terminal.
Potential Epidermic?
I reached home when twilight fell. Then I online to read more about measles. Only I did realize that measles is highly contagious and in some cases, fatalities! (1 out of 1000) However the good news is, in Malaysia standard of living is moderately high so there is no reason to be worry. Moreover we were all vaccinated against the really dangerous strain of measles virus. (FYI, there is many strains of the virus, not all are deadly) Anyway deep in my heart I am praying that none in UTP would pick up the disease. Otherwise, UTP might come to a standstill, just like the Japanese Measles Epidemic and imagine this - I am the culprit that all the fingers would point!!! The result would be shown in 10 more days...
Lets Know More!
Measles is a very infectious viral disease spread by droplets of saliva.It is a serious condition that used to carry a high mortality rate, mainly the under threes. Measles is caused by the Morbillivirus.
Symptoms -incubation period of 9-14 days -fever -conjunctivitis -Koplik's spots in the mouth which resembles grains of salt -runny nose -cough -rashes that spread throughout the body starting from the head -rashes may join to form blotches -painful joints -rashes may itch
Complications Measles is a serious disease. It may lead to vision impair or blindness as a result from eye ulceration. Up to certain extends it could be fatal. However rate of fatality can be relatively rare with a proper treatment. The commonest cause of death is pneumonia. The most serious complication it could bring is encephalitis or brain infection. 1 in 1000 patients with measles will develop this problem, 10-15% of those who do will die, and about another 25% will be left with permanent brain damage, which would result in coma, convulsions, paralysis and are intellectually impaired.
Treatment Since it is a viral disease, there is no cure for it so far. However treatments are aim to relieve the symptoms and complications. Sufficient rest is vital for your body to fight against the virus. Take a lot of water to prevent dehydration from fever. Supportive measures such as Caramine lotion and paracetamol will ease the discomforts. In cases of bacterial infection such as pneumonia, antibiotics are prescribed.
Prevention The only way of prevention is through immunization. An MMR injection (measles mumps rubella) , could easily render us invulnerable to the disease. Well, I'll not gonna write long since it is deep in the night and I still have a long list of orientation programs way to go this week. Moreover, I am using my roomate's laptop.
I reached UTP at about 9 o'clock in the morning, and I recieved an SMS from Rachel asking me about my depature at the same moment. Well, I then headed to the Chancellor complex (in the picture) for registration. For your information, the complex actually symbolizes UTP, credit to its unique architectual design. Besides, labs and library in this complex is really amazing, with its fastinating futuristic looks.
I would say that I'm very lucky to got admitted into UTP because I could see something where other university can't - the UTP society. I would love to stress on the Malay friends in UTP. They are the chosen one all over Malaysia, the cream of the cream. The vast majority of them here are very capable especially in leadership, and of course, very friendly and sociable. Ya, What really caught my attention is that, many of them are REALLY excellent in English, and are really good English speakers! The officers and lecturer are even better! I really respected them. Well, I met friend from all over Malaysia, as well as from other country such as Austria, Zimbawe, South Africa, Thailand, Sudan and etc.
Ok, I think I'll stop here. Time doesn't allow. I'll post an even detail one with more pictures soon after I got to access the free computer in the Library!
I'll no longer be staying in Melaka, the place where I used to call home for the past 14 years. Before I step out of my house with my luggages in hands, I turned my head back to look shortly into the living room once again. Kinda procrastination. Kinda sad. It was empty, dark, silent. Yet, memories of the past keep being reminisced in my mind. I saw my siblings watching television though they were all sleeping soundly in their bed. In fact it was just an imagination of a normal day. I pay a last visit to my aquarium for this month (hopefully), but the fishes were all ''dormant'' at night. When the car engine roamed, I know that it was time. I finally stepped out of the gate, reluctantly. I am really, really emo! A mixed feeling of sadness and happiness! That nostalgic midnight really means a lot to me, signifies a junction which change my journey of life forever... Soon, we departed. Well, I am actually kinda emo, sad to mention, when it comes to this kind of moments where I am departing for another life. (The same implies to the day before I go to Japan for 2 weeks and NS for 3 months. But UTP for 5 years!!!). I will appreciate all the my stays in Melaka, and the time I spend with family and fellow friends. Adios Jia Wei, Han Way, Amin, Heng, William, Wee Chen, Kin Woon etc etc! After 5 years pursuing my foundation and a degree in petroluem engineering in UTP, scarcely I stand a chance to come back here, or to meet with you guys. Yes, only for vacations I'll come back. I might be working miles away off-shore in the middle of 'nowhere', or thousands of miles away off-Malaysia. That's why when I think more and more, I became more and more emo. Ok. Enough mention of my stupid emo's emotion. Come on, that's normal!!! Oh, forget to mention that Amin had finally decided to take ALAM rather than Petronas in search for a much greener pastures in USA. Amin, good luck and be cheerful as you always be! I will always support you!
Today I keep myself busy with packing, packing and packing, shopping, shopping and shopping. I go to JJ for a luggage-hunt, and also satisfactorily hunted down a few nice clothes. Oh yeap, Rachel said she would be there also, luggage-hunting too, so a Rachel-hunt was going on. Hehe. But too sad I never saw her. There are human all over, flooding every corner. Really too "much" of human. I could barely walked without colliding with them. It was not appealing at all environment wise, so hot and congested with human. You know la, human breath out hot gases and occupy space, because they are matters. But on the contrary, the prices were, wow, fantastic! That's why it's like sugar attracting ants, honeys attracting bees and money attracting the forever craving human. Including me, hehe, human too. Oh, ya, due to the astonishing numbers of car, it left me no choice but to park my car far away at Han Seng's big mansion, after my mom granting permission from her mom. However what a pity of us when my car came broken down half way back to home...haiz. Had to called out my aunty to send us home...
When the counting of months became weeks, I finally made up my mind to put a full stop in my form 6 life. I will soon leaving this very home town to start off a new life as a university student far to the north in UTP, Perak. Hence, my time at home is getting more precious as it goes shorter, so I had decided to spend more time at home. Ya, for some may doubt over my sudden disappearance in class, leaving MHS in silence without a word. So here I explain to you why is it so. In fact I set the date 20th of June (Friday) as my last day in school, and would be bitting farewell to my class. However I didn't make it to Friday since i fell ill for the last 2 day, therefore absent and off I went.
These are the few conclusions that I'd jump into about MHS form 6: It deserves a thumb-up for the teachers and classmates. The teachers are hardworking, experienced and really talented in teachings while the classmates are among the cream of the state (I am not boasting). Everyone are so smart that really pissed me off, make me feel inferior and intimidated especially people like Tang Xing Yi, Ang Wen Jean, Low Jia Wei and Nicky Thong. Others may be, too, but I don't know them long enough. For sure, I'll always be at the last position if i were to stay there. Somehow the classes have a superb atmosphere strong enough to urge me studying. For your information, MHS is among the top in ranking in the whole country for its STPM achievement for the pass few years. Oh, forgot to mention about the toilet...it really sucks! So filthy and smelly that it'll probably awaken those who on a drug effect. The toilet had it's doors pulled off, and the mirror was shattered into pieces. Yea, the wall is full of graffiti. I wonder it makes it look prettier.
Well, there are a few things that I gonna miss: Definitely I felt reluctant to stop my school life, for it had been the daily routine that I'd been so used to for the past 11 years. I totally agreed with Jia Wei's point that school life is something that money can't buy with once it'd passed. Don't tell me that you are gonna put on your school uniform when your are in the age of 50. Hell, that's totally freak! School life is fun, especially the time I spent with my fellow friends. By leaving Form 6, I'll gonna miss all my friends, especially those from SFI like Han Way. There are also a few from IJC whom I know since form 2, like Tang Xing Yi and Wen Jean, likewise, would be missing them too. I would also miss the school uniform....lol, rather looks like a waiter or salesman's attire. So be it!
Whatever it is, life is always dynamic. We keep facing changes in our life. So hopefully I had made the right choice and UTP won't let me down. Despite of the non-Chinese dominance and strangers there, I'm quite adaptive environment wise and would be used to it as proven in NS. I can always be connected with my fellow friends through blogging and MSN.
I am one of the millions of trainees nationwide who are called to participate in the National Service in year 2008. Unlike my other fellow unlucky friends (because got selected) who are lucky enough to camp in Melaka, my camp is located far away in Kluang, Johor, which takes me almost 2.5 hours journey to reach there by bus from Melaka. Approximately the same length of journey from Melaka to KL.
About My Camp The Camp is known as Kem PTH Padang Hijau or Green Feild Resort - the best equipped camp (so far I knew) with the most beautiful landscapes atmosphered by rejuvenating fresh air. As the name suggested, the camp is surrounded in oil palm plantation...therefore "hijau", means green. In the sea of oil palm trees, there stand our lovely dorms...which looks rather like chalets, especially during night time under the argon lamps illumination. Since the land is uneven in height, the dorms are built on cliffs after cliffs, thus making the scene more like the "Hanging Garden" while being viewed from far. Every morning, this camp would be covered in a thick fog, sometimes much more intense than Genting Highland due to its high humidity. The air is simply cool, fresh and soul-enlightening. I am quite satisfied with these when compared to other camps. We have white marble floor in the dorm and brand new toilets. You could hardly believe that you can see a reflection of your face in the floor in C5 dorm! 1 more thing...I could hardly see any mosquitoes...but flies are a big threat!

I think that I am pretty much lucky to have 8 guys from my formal school accompanied me. Suppose to have 9 of them, but Chua Kwee Shen got exempted from participating in this program due to his medical situation. The other 8 were Lee Shih Tien, Tan Guan Ann, Tan Say Hao, Yeow Kin Woon, Jie Han, Yoga and Yusof. Lee Shih Tien and Tan Guan Ann even share the same dorm with me, while Kin Woon and Say Hao share the same Dorm. Kin Woon and I are already friend, and only acquainted with Tan Guan Ann and Lee Shih Tien. But within days an intimate friendship had developed within us, and also with other chinese trainees. Among them are William, Jason, Matthew, Ah Wee, Ann Xiang, Xiao Xiang, Chow Xiang, Winson, Ah Yonng, Ah Quan, Alan, Tee Ming Hian, Jia Hern...

Well, of course, I did make friend with some Wirawatis too. Ee Ling was among the first that I got to know, then Audrey, Hui Juan, Jessica, Siew Kian...and they had added in colour into my NS life. Among them Hui Juan and Siew Kian are the 11As scorers, exactly the same as me, then Ee Ling is 10 As. Really glad to know them. However in the camp there is some chemistry between Wira and Wirawati...well, since this is sensitive and personal so I would not gonna share much of it. But I could tell you that almost everyone did experience it. Free time to spend with freind There is actually quite a lot of free time while in the camp. This only refers to non-Muslim as Muslim would have to be forced to do their prayers 5 times a day! So that time we are on our on feet. But there is some limit, of course. So usually we'll take out snacks to enjoy and cook some cup noodle. Then, while eating we'll chit-chatting with each other, and talk about our life. There, I realized how lucky I am! We are all from different walks of life, from student to bartender and fighter! It is almost impossible for us to meet together, live under one roof and become close friend. But NS do! That's how I learn to appreciate people around me! Below are some photos of us in the camp, reminiscing the lovely memories.

NOT ADVICABLE to Attend the 2nd batch! This is really true for those who excel academically. Since we are only allowed to contact the 'outside world' through telephone and faxes, while not having a chance to serve the net, it stands us no chance at all to get to know more scholarships. Yes, newspaper are available but how much can we do? How to check our application results? Note that my parents are no good in this aspect. Moreover it is really troublesome to get out of the camp to attend all the interviews, as the procedures are pretty much and annoying. The situation then get worse when I was called to interview in Perak for the Petronas scholarship! And my parents have to run front and forth all the way from Melaka to Johor. Imagine that, one single journey (from Melaka to Johor) would cost my father's Datsun 120y RM30 for the petrol, and RM14 for the highway toll. So there is a total of 4 times of travelling the same journey when I took an off to go back Melaka (my dad go to Johor to fetch me, then go back home with me. Then go to Johor again to send me there, then go back to Melaka). So the total expenses is approximately RM176. Note that I did not go back once, but several times for some festivals such as Cheng Meng and the Wesak day. The total expenses would result a lost when I contra with the RM450 I recieve from them.
Low Jia Wei Being helpless in the camp, 1 of my good friend swiftly turned up to lend me his helping hands on dealing with new scholarship applications. Thanks to Low Jia Wei who had helped me so much regardless on the money he spent for hours of calling me over the phone, and the time and effort he had contributed to help me apply those scholarships. He also keep me informed of the latest results via SMSing. Moreover, he even helped me wrote a thousand words essay for the Sime Darby scholarship. Sadly I got none of the scholarship...but still I am thankful to Jia Wei.
Why Unlucky Well, there is a few reasons behind this. First - changes in physical appearance, which is also one of the aspect which youths concern the most. Through the 3 months of trainings under the programme...much of us (trainees) actually gain nothing physically but rather, surprisingly, weight. Why? Because we had 6 meals a day while working out too little!. Well, for some might be confused which 6 meals, they are breakfast, morning tea break, lunch, afternoon tea break, dinner and supper. Terrible. For Wiras, which include me, got our precious hair trimmed to the skin!!! Therefore we look the same...as dumb as a donkey. However it is very cooling and well ventilated. Some boys lose their power and confidence without hair (like Yeow Kin Woon) as he kept complaining he looks unattractive. However in my view, it is on the contrary. The best way to counter this is to put on a cap. So it is not strange for you to notice a sudden increase in the number of "botak"s and cap bearers recently following the end of the 2nd-batch training this month. Second - lost of freedom. Well, we gotta follow all kinda rules while in the camp. Eg, when we go outta our dorm, we'll need to put on a tidy attire. Just similar to my formal school, long pants, no jeans, well tucked- in collared shirt, and shoes with socks and it is made compulsory for the Malay girls to put on the tudungs and long sleeves shirt. Holding the Colt M-16 machine gun is once-in-a-lifetime chance. Well, you may hold the normal hand gun or hunter's rifle, but never an M-16. (except in Counter Strike) M-16 is made of stainless iron weight only 2.95 Kg. It's bullets are made of copper, and cost RM16 each! Under the close guidance and monitor of army officers, we are allowed to shoot 30 bullets in the shooting range. A target is given at a distance of 150 meters, and we do our best to aim the bull's eye. Finally, I manage to score the highest among the males in my company! With a total mark of 88 out of 100. (though i Know Bagi score 100!) . Second - get to know a lots of friends. In the camp I had really made lots of friends with people of all walks of life. well, I've explained everything previosly. Third - obtain a certificate. During my last day, I got the most precious thing, a yellow certificate with Najib's signature. This certificate definitely has its significance. We will be on advantages as we go for interview, and I think NS help me to got my Petronas scholarship. (that time I'm still in camp) Fourth - experience. I obtain many precious experience in the camp dealing with people and activities. Fifth - RM450. We would receive RM 150 from JLKN under Bank Pertanian Account every month, so a total of RM450 in three months. But should be RM550 as JLKN had promised to award those who obtain 9 As and above in the SPM examination. But it is obviously BULLSHIT when my account only shows RM420. However, as I've been told by the vice commandant, there is a new order from the JLKN recently which make us fully paid even that we leave the camp early. But the effects of the order still don't seems to show up when my one of my friend has only 150 in her account!

Fatality of NS trainee NS has always been a sensitive issue in our country, especially cases concerning trainees' death. There has been a total of 16 death since the program started in year 2004. Chilck here for wikilink. Out of these 16, 1 death happened in my camp 2 years ago back in year 2006, which was caused by fight among Delta trainees.
